M1: Research in Advertising Genre Conventions
It's important to analyze other designs and advertising drink products similar to mine use and the intricacy behind each design. I followed the conventions of a healthy drink brand by using bright, warm colors to show the liveliness and nature that the beverage holds. Although most healthy drinks have a calming but formal aesthetic, I contrasted this with an absurd premise and vivid colors that show how unusual Squack is.
Advert 1: Sunny D
Sunny D drinks usually try to target a teenage audience for their fresh fruity drinks. They use bold orange, blues and whites to indicate excitement, energy and freshness. The orange especially is associated with the orange flavored drink that represents the brand most. The brightness of the colors works with the bold sans-serif fonts used in the text and logo as it makes it even more eye-catching and vibrant. The fonts used are blocky, slightly wriggly and outlined with color which makes them appear more fun and uncontrolled than just having the basic font with white.
The common repeated word in the Sunny D brand is the word Sun. The sun can connotate brightness, nature and daytime, showing that he brand wants to be interpreted the same way.
Young people are furthermore the targets as the brand as it uses social media picture including young people posing, memes and aesthetic pictures, to sell the drink to them. The advert is straight forward with showing how hip and fresh the drink (and therefor the brand) really is. Although sort of social media marketing already brings plenty of relevancy to the brand, using the Sunny D name on top of that makes it appealing to teenagers who, whether like it or not, will have an opinion on that use of advertising and will talk about it with other, which yet again spreads the name of Sunny D.
Advert 2:Ribena (berry campaign)
Ribena has a more darker and elegant branding to it than Sunny D, indicating how rich and passioned the flavoring is, but still appealing to families with engaging color's and characters. The general colors used for the branding are purples and pinks similar to the berries the drink's flavored after, making it straight forward and to the point. The font is sans-serif showing how clean and trustworthy the sentences being used with it are; it's accompanied with a dark natural red, similar to the color of the drink (it's a recuring theme to include colors of the drink in the branding).
The TV adverts follow a small story with these minion-like berry characters trying to make it into a bottle of Ribena, to become part of its flavoring. This engages an audience by making the Ribena brand appear cute and friendly, especially with how the berries want to be a part of the Ribena drink. The quote following says "Bring on the berries" which introduces an proud, exciting attitude, which therefor makes the audience more confident about the brand.
Advert 3: Slush Puppie
Slush Puppie is an ongoing drink brand, most famous for their berry flavored slushes. The main colors consist of red, blue and white, all with their own reasons. The red is a reference to their raspberry flavored slushes, blue is both a reference to the blueberry flavor and a generally cool color indicating it's a cold drink and white, which mixed with the blue, works with connotating snow and ice. Overall, these colors are fun, lively and fit with the brand's graphological style, especially when accompanied by a serif but bold font. The lines attached to the letters makes the text flow together alot better and positively compact as it's in a cup itself.Older TV advertisements (1980s) for Slush Puppie would advertise for a younger audience not only through using animation, which is usually associated as 'for kids', but also uses the slogan "Fun in a cup!". The slogan has the same red the brand uses for their cherry flavored slushes and has a rounded bolds serif font to show how fun and friendly the drink is. The advertisements would have children and families playing outside, on the beach or fields, during summer time which connotates that summer and hot days are perfect for drinking Slush Puppie, especially for active kids.
